About WriteGirl

WriteGirl is a creative writing and mentoring organization for teen girls, ages 13-18. Every week, more than 75 professional women writers work one-on-one with girls on creative writing projects. Every month, WriteGirl hosts creative writing workshop for over 150 girls and professional women writers in all genres, including poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, songwriting, journalism, screenwriting, playwriting, persuasive writing, journal writing, editing and more. For more information, visit our website.

The WriteGirl blog is written and operated by WriteGirl members and staff. All WriteGirl mentees regularly submit posts, work one-on-one with mentors and staff to further polish their writing and learn about the online publishing world in general.

We are proud to report that WriteGirl was named the California Nonprofit of the Year by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver!

  1. What’s the youngest age of your participants? 13 or do you go slightly into the pre-teen years?

    Thanks,

    • My name is Abby, and I live all the way in Maine. I read about WriteGirl and it’s efforts in helping teen girls like me through writing, in Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal. I was inspired. I am currently doing a social studies project on WriteGirl and so far, I’m almost finished with it. I’d like to thank you guys for putting so much hard work and devotion into young girls like me.

      Thanks So Much!
      Abby

      • Oh, I was wondering, if what you guys have here is really doing well, and improving, why not expand to make WriteGirl more accessable to girls like me ll the way up here in litte ole Maine?;)
        Thanks Again <3

  2. WriteGirl is aimed at girls 13-18 years old, so usually our youngest mentees are starting the 8th grade. While this is the age group of girls we work with, WriteGirl supports the writing and empowerment of all girls and women – of any age! Perhaps this blog can be a community for all of us. Thanks, Stacey!

  3. Hello, my name is Jenna, I just have to say, I absolutely love what you are doing here!

I don’t know how else to say this, but I would love to be involved with what you are doing, if you have use for me.

I am 25. I currently teach Pilates, but I am on a journey to find myself, the writer, I’ve written mostly poetry over the years, but I am interested in one day writing novels. I do want to, eventually, write a book geared toward girls around the age of 16 to 20 regarding their sexuality and how to convey themselves as young ladies, and not be misunderstood by the way they dress or talk.

Anyway, I’m working on my own confidence as a writer, and was originally seeking creative writing classes for myself. This is how I discovered your site.

I’d love to help, even if I could blog about certain topics,

Let me know if there is someway I could contribute. EIther way, just so happy with what you’re doing here. Take care, and sorry to type your ear off!!

    Sincerely,
    Jenna.
